Penny Côté As a member of the Sproat Lake Community Penny is the Director for the Electoral Area of Sproat Lake in the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District and on the Board of Directors for the Sproat Lake Community Association. Penny is also active as the coordinator for Sproat Lake with the BC Lake Stewardship Society, a non-profit society dedicated to the preservation and protection of British Columbia’s lakes. |

Dave Bishop David is retired after a 40 year career in the forestry, with experience in both industry and research. Dave received his Bachelor of Science in Forestry from UBC in 1972. His career was primarily spent in Forest Operations Planning for MacMillan Bloedel in various operations on Vancouver Island. Dave has considerable knowledge of the proposed Alberni Valley Community Forest area as it is within the area previously referred to as Sproat Lake Division of TFL 44 where Dave last worked. |

Don Dowling Don retired from MacMillan Bloedel in 1999. He spent the last 20 years of his career in and around Port Alberni, as Woodlands Manager of Franklin River, Estevan, and Kennedy Lake Divisions. Don represented MacMillan Bloedel on the various Clayoquot Sound committees, and helped structure the beginning of Iisaak in Clayoquot Sound. Following retirement, Don worked as a consultant for several communities, including Ucluelet and Ahousaht, on initiatives to promote local involvement in the Forest Industry. |

Neil Malbon Neil worked for MacMillan Bloedel and Weyerhaeuser for 29 years. As manager of the Alberni and Tofino Forest Information Centres, Neil was responsible for the development and conduction of public, customer and school tours and programs. Other responsibilities included Chair of the Alberni Valley Donations Committee and the management of the Weyerhaeuser BC Coastal Group’s FRBC Communications Program. Currently, Neil is the General Manager of the Mclean Mill National Historic Site and Alberni Pacific Railway. |

Jack McLeman Jack has a diverse background working in the forest sector, as a labour representative, and now in politics. Jack worked in Somass sawmill for 36 years. He spent 15 of those years on Labour Council and held various IWA-C/Steel positions over the same time period. Jack is currently serving his first term as City Councilor for the City of Port Alberni. |

The Honourable Ken McRae Ken was first elected as Mayor of the City of Port Alberni in September, 2001. Ken is currently a Director of the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District, Director of Upnit Power Corporation, Director of the Island Corridor Rail Foundation as well as Treasurer for the Coastal Community Network. His past involvements, among many others, include: Co-Chair for the Commission on Resources and Environment for Vancouver Island and Director on Model Forest and Canada’s representative at the World Forest Conference in Malaysia. Ken received the Queens Golden Jubilee Medal for his significant service to Canada and his community. He was named Port Alberni’s Citizen of the Year for 2003. Ken began his working career with MacMillan Bloedel at the Plywood Mill in 1957. He then went to work for MacMillan Bloedel’s Pulp and Paper Mill in 1962. He retired in 1998. |

Dan retired in 2004 after 32 years with the Ministry of Forests. During his last 10 years with the South Island Forest District in Port Alberni his responsibilities as an Operations Manager included the Small Business Forest Enterprise Program (now BC Timber Sales), Major Tenures, and Engineering. Although mostly retired Dan still does some forest consulting for a couple of small clients. |

Les Sam Les Sam is the Chief Councillor of the Tseshaht First Nation and is responsible for their Forestry portfolio. Les is the oldest son of Syliva (Nelson) and the late Chuck Sam. He was raised on reserve on both traditional foods and teachings. He learned about the Broken Group Islands from Jacob Gallic and his father and uncles taught him to fish and hunt. This led him to a lifetime of practicing his Aboriginal rights to hunting, fishing, and gathering. He continues to live his culture by singing and participating in ceremonial potlatches. In 1978 Les became an apprentice journeyman after taking a carpentry course at Camosun College. He founded Les Sam Construction and his company has constructed buildings such as NEDC, the Haahuupayak school, the Nanaimo First Nations administration building, Bank of Montreal Tsahaheh, as well as over 150 individual homes. |

Gary Swann Gary owns and operates an 80 acre Ecoforest and operates Leda Organic Farm, selling organic produce at the farmers market with his wife Jacqueline and son Louis. He is Director of the Alberni Environmental Coalition and Director of the Ecoforestry Institute. |

Ken Watson Ken is the City of Port Alberni’s City Manager. Ken is also a professional engineer with over 20 years experience in the field of civil engineering and was the former City Engineer for Port Alberni. |
